Every Brook book begins with one sentence, a story a reader wants to bring into the world. Send yours in, or back one already gathering readers. Our staff reads every idea and approves the ones with real quality, feasibility, and heart.
A 60-day campaign opens and readers pledge $35 each. At 250 backers the book is greenlit and a writer is commissioned. If a campaign does not get there, it closes, and every pledge stays with Brook, where it helps future readers' books get written.
A commissioned writer begins the manuscript and sends backers milestone updates as they write. When the draft is done, editing begins.
Backers get two weeks to vote between two covers. Then all 250 names go in the back of the book, as Anonymous if you prefer. You get a free e-book and a discount on the printed edition, and the book joins a growing collection of books.

When you back a book with a $35 pledge, you're helping bring a story into the world, and here is exactly what that means. If the book reaches 250 readers, your pledge helps pay its writer, and you get the book: your name printed in the back, a vote on its cover, the e-book free, and a discount on the printed edition. If the book doesn't reach 250, the campaign closes and pledges are not refunded. They stay with Brook and go into the same work, helping future authors and future readers' books get born. Two promises, always: a pledge is never attached to a book you didn't choose (your name only ever appears in books you backed), and you are never charged for anything you didn't pick yourself. Every pledge is one choice, made by you, one book at a time.
